Link is DOWN

Hi All,

Could you please help? I have a new setup server rp8420. When I tried to ignite it from ignite server, suddenly the server is not up with error "link is down" as below. I have tried to reset, unplumb/plumb, but still can not help.

Anyone can help me how to resolve the issue?

Thanks alot in advance.

Best Regards,
Negara

# lanadmin -x 0
The link is down. The speed and other link state information
are undefined. The configuration specified for this card is:
Speed = 1000 or 100 or 10 Mbps.
Autonegotiation = On.

Re: Link is DOWN

Sorry forgot to mention that when I run ifconfig, it says that the lan0 is UP. But lanadmin -x 0 command says that the lan0 is down.

Re: Link is DOWN

Shalom,

As they say in my favorite sci-fi show.

Time for the mark 1 eyeball.

Look at the cable connection, see if lights are lit. Look at the switch and see if the cable from the machine to the switch is lit.

Once this is confirmed good, its possible the NIC went down(hardware) or a reboot will fix it.

Re: Link is DOWN

As SEP comments, time to do some physical labour.
Th elanscan "UP" statement means the hardware is up, it does not mean there is a cable plugged in or an signals flowing.
Lanadmin on the other hand is indicating that there may be no connection on that card
