lp working on one machine but not on other one.
Hi All,
We have two HP-UX Itanium v11.31 machines.
on both machines I have installed hppi with HP11e134.SD.
on both machines I have installed printer driver for printer "HP LaserJet MFP M427fdn" through SAM. Its a network printer. I have made the host entries on both machines to the printer.
Issue is that when I issue print from lp command to the printer from machine1 its printing but not from machine 2.
Machine1 lp logs: /var/adm/lp/log

Please note that its only the printer name that is different on both the machines. but they both point to same printer.
The only change I see is that there are Start and End line in machine1 logs but not in other one.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks and Regards,
Jagdish

Re: lp working on one machine but not on other one.
SAM does not install network (JetDirect I/O) printers. Instead, it is a very clumsy interface to the JetDirect menu script, another clumsy tool.
Just delete the printers, then add them with a single command line, like this:
# addqueue -i 266 -h IP-ADDR -q printqueuename -r off -t off -b off
266 is the JetDirect spooler script id for net_ljx000, the only one needed for any network printer. -h is followed by the IP address of the printer, -q is the name HP-UX will use as a printer destination. -r and -t must always be off. The job-recovery and True-EOJ never worked and will never be fixed. The -b turns off a primitive job separation page.

Hello Jagdish
Can you confirm the hostname resolution is working fine from machine2 ?

...hostname resolution...
I don't recommend using hostnames for printers, ever. It introduces an additional failure point with no redeeming value added. Printers should be dependable and stable and DNS, well, it can be a difficult service to maintain, especially if hosted on Windows servers.
