lsof alternative

Is there an alternative to lsof to view which processes have the file open.( /usr/ucb/ps ?)

I hope sometimes fuser too helps.

fuser -u filename

fuser has always been part of HP-UX but has been hopelessly broken as it cannot correctly identify all processes that have a particular file or directory open. There is no alternative to lsof for accurate information.
