Lun creation

I needed more space on vg01 so after checking to see how much space was availble on my Array I created LUN3 with 16052MB.

My question is how do I add that space to vg01?

Re: Lun creation

vgextend /dev/vg03 /dev/dsk/c0t1d0

substitute the address of your LUN for /dev/dsk/c0t1d0

Re: Lun creation

The way you normally extend VG.

LUN3 must have created a physical device with #3 in it. Confirm this with ioscan.

then vgextend the volume group

vgextend /dev/dsk/diskname /dev/vg01

Re: Lun creation

What kind of array? XP?

ioscan -f

-or-

insf -e

If xp then ".xpinfo.".

If you can't see it now and xp then are you using security?

Re: Lun creation

run "ioscan -fnC disk" and attach that output

Re: Lun creation

I suspect that it's 0/4/0/0.0.3 disk HP C5447A and has a mirror at 0/7/0/0.1.3 disk HP C5447A.

Do an ioscan -fnCdisk and a vgdisplay -v to see if these addresses are used.

And the vgdisplay?

Did you want the entire vgdisplay -v or only part of it?

Re: Lun creation

Looks like c4t0d3 is the device you can extend vg01.

diskinfo /dev/rdsk/c4t0d3 would show you the lun size.

pvdisplay /dev/dsk/c4t0d3 will show you if you have already used this device for any VG.

Re: Lun creation

As USA said, verify with pvdisplay that /dev/dsk/c4t0d3
is not already used - then go ahead and vgextend /dev/vg01 /dev/dsk/c4t0d3.

Re: Lun creation

I think that I am getting closer. After following your steps this is what I get:

root: /home/root ==> diskinfo /dev/rdsk/c4t0d3
SCSI describe of /dev/rdsk/c4t0d3:
vendor: HP
product id: C5447A
type: direct access

pvdisplay: Couldn't find the volume group to which
physical volume "/dev/dsk/c4t0d3" belongs.
pvdisplay: Cannot display physical volume "/dev/dsk/c4t0d3".
root: /home/root ==> vgextend /dev/dsk/c4t0d3 /dev/vg01
vgextend: Physical volume "/dev/vg01" is not a block special file.

Re: Lun creation

Uhmmmm...

Aren't we missing a

pvcreate /dev/rdsk/c4t0d3

before the vgextend here?

I want to thank everyone that helped me get this figured out. Everything is working the way I hoped it would. I took the time to go back and take notes so that the next time that I have to do this I will know the steps.

Re: Lun creation

C5447A is an AutoRAID 12h. This array can have only 8 LUNs. It is connected to two SCSI HBAs: c4 and c5. One controller has Id 0 and another Id 1 (t0 and t1). LUN number can only be in 0-7 range. So LUN you're seeking for is that with LUN#=3.
As soon as AutoRAID is connected using classic redundant topology, when extending volume group make sure you included another path as alternate for this LUN (physical volume).
And last question: what's firmware version array has? Latest is HP62
