make_recovery fails
We have a K580 running HP-UX 10.20 and attempted to run a make_recovery of vg00 but it failed.Below is the command used
and the error message:
- # /opt/ignite/bin/make_recovery -A -d /dev/rmt/c5t0d0BESTn
- EMS [5969]: ------ EMS Event Notification ------ Value: "CRITICAL (5)" for
Resource: "/storage/events/tapes/SCSI_tape/10_12_5.0.0"
(Threshold: >= " 3")
Execute the following command to obtain event details:
/opt/resmon/bin/resdata -R 358285314 -r /storage/events/tapes/SCSI_tape/10_12_5.0.0 -n 391184386 -a
This is the second time this happens insuccession witth different tapes.Any ideas what could be the course?
Thanks in advance!

Re: make_recovery fails
Have you tried to "Execute the following command to obtain event details:
/opt/resmon/bin/resdata -R 358285314 -r /storage/events/tapes/SCSI_tape/10_12_5.0.0 -n 391184386 -a"? As it says, this will give you details.

Re: make_recovery fails
We did but not sure if the tape drive is faulty and should be replaced? See attached EMS message and let us know what you think.
Thanks in advance!

Re: make_recovery fails
perhaps a stupid question, but is the tape longer than the tape station can handle?

Re: make_recovery fails
The error seems to indicate a problem with the media rather than the drive. Have you cleaned the drive? Try a cleaning then one more time with a brand new tape. If that doesn't do it, I think it's time to call HP.

Re: make_recovery fails
I don't think that's a stupid question at all - an older dat drive is not compatible with newer, longer tapes. That could be it.
