You sure, you have that device??

mt /dev/rmt/2m stat
What are perms on /dev/rmt/2m

Check syslog.log and dmesg for errors as well.

Also, make sure your device name didnt change... and are you not using the no rewind option?

Sorry for the waste of time, I was thinking I was on the test box where it is 2m. Instead the device is 1m, changed the script everything worked fine thanks,

DOH DOH DOH!!!

I hate it when that happens...

I once was rlogin'd over to another box and inadvertenly rebooted the wrong one... but heh luckily it was during my maintenance and didnt cause too much headache...
