Hello,
Our customer had an rp4440 server running HPUX 11i v1 with 2 x 36GB bootable mirrored hard disks using MirrorDisk software.
He puchased 2 x 72GB disks to replace the current disks.
1- i have disconnected the alternate disk (without breaking the mirroring status),replaced it with the new 72GB disk, and i mirrored the current 36GB disk to the new 72GB disk.
then i boot from the new disk but i am not able to extend the data logical volume and also the HPUX logical volume ; the total PE is the same as the old disk.
2- I breaked the mirroring status between the 2 x 36GB disks ,i replaced the alternate disk by the new 72GB disk and continued the procedure as in the first solution ; i am facing the same problem when trying to extend any logical volume.
NB : no tape drive attached to the server
Please advise.
Thanks and Regards
Roger

Solution
Hi Roger:
The problem is that you haven't performed a 'vgcreate' (or 'vgmodify' which isn't available on 11.11). Hence, the LVM geometry that was set originally for the volume group has not changed and is merely replicated.
One very safe solution is to create an Ignite recovery tape of the server; power down the server; insert the new, larger physical disks; and using the Ignite tape, recover onto the new disk.
In the absence of a tape drive you will need to use Ignite's 'make_net_recovery' instead.
Regards!

Re: Mirroring with larger disk
Hi Roger,
Bad news.
Make an Ignite server , use net recovery and restore it to new disk .
Regards,
Sooraj

Re: Mirroring with larger disk
Shalom Roger,
Your mirror break scenario should work, but leaves you with 36 GB of un-used space on the disk.
The best way to permanently fix this and allow you to use the entire disk is an Ignite backup and recvoery.
