Netscape 7.0 Config
I installed Netscape 7.0 on HP-UX 11i.
I am unable to have my preferences saved. i.e. I want the sidebar and tabs closed.
I close the sidebar and tabs, exit and restart netscape and the sidebar and tabs are open again.
File permissions are ok. I could not find anything in my .mozilla profile, the netscape default prefs that will start Netscape with the sidebar closed.
Does anyone know where I can find docs on configing Netscape (such as all of the preference options available).
I couldn't find anything useful at netscape.com.
I would also like to have only Navigator. Does anyone know how to lock out Mail, News, etc. I can't use Navigator 4.79 because of Javascript bugs it contains.
Thanks.

Re: Netscape 7.0 Config
I am hoping you're using Netscape 7.02. Several bug fixes have been incorporated into the latest release. If you are using an older release, it would be prudent to upgrade.
Closing the sidebar:
I have been able to successfully close it permanently. All I did was close it, then exit and restart. Note that if Netscape crashes, it does not seem to save preferences properly. You need to exit.
Starting only Navigator:
Edit -> Preferences. In the Appearance selection, you should be able to specify which items you want. Deselect all except Navigator. Click ok, then exit, and restart.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.

Re: Netscape 7.0 Config
Make sure whereever you store your profile you have rights to those directories.
Netscape gets pretty fat with its profiles so I store it on a mounted filesystem, /home/root instead of my actual home for root /root
No fun when netscape fills up the root fs.
Just a note. Netscape 4.80 is out for HP-UX
Perfectly reliable, less space and resource use.

Re: Netscape 7.0 Config
Let's clarify!!
I installed the swinstall package from www.hp.com/go/netscape.
I want to completely disable mail, news, etc. They are still accessible if I use edit->preferences. I want to make it like they were never installed. I want Navigator only to be operational.
The problem with the preferences saving (sidebar) was the localstore.rdf, search.rdf and panels.rdf was not writeable by the user. Must be a Netscape config bug that these are not writeable by the user creating a profile.
