Ok to delete or NOT!
Can I safely delete all or any portion of the file(s) called: pacct, ps_data, Located in /var/adm ??
How about the tombstones files ts* ?? Located in /var/tombstones?
I have an L-Class server running 11.0 and OmniBack-II 3.5.
All responses are greatly appreciated in advance.
Alex.

Re: Ok to delete or NOT!
If you have alot of tombstones yes you can remove them, but you want to keep the last couple, remeber these tell about hardware problems that you may encure. If you are experencing any problems, you may want to hold off until they have been reviewed.

Re: Ok to delete or NOT!
Hi:
'tombstone' files contain hardware diagnostic information which is important in the event of a hardware failure. The most recent is '99', then '98', etc. in descending order. These logs are created during a boot. If you aren't having any hardware problems, I'd keep the last three logs and discard the rest.

Re: Ok to delete or NOT!
i will also use the cleanup script to delete all the old patches that you have.
also you can purge the tombstones but i will copy them to a diff loc.
also you can try to find core files that mybe is in the /var but i geust that you did it .

Re: Ok to delete or NOT!
thank you all very vey much for your help and responses. ps_data is a binary file containing a mapping of major and minor numbers to device file names. You CAN, if need be, zero out this file as it will get rebuilt.
The same hold true for file "pacct". It can be trimmed or deleted, depending on your disk space issue.
Alex.
