OnLine JFS
This may sound stupid but I can not figure it out. I have two new Itanium machines running HPUX 11.v2 (11.23). When I do a swlist I am notified that OnLIne JFS is installed. Here is my question. How do I tell if OnLine JFS is being used? If it is installed does that mean that my VXFS' are running the Online JFS or could they still be the base JFS? Is there a process to look for to identify Online JFS? Lastly I had a look at all the files in /etc/rc.conf.d to see if there was a control file in there for Online JFS but couldn't find anything, if it is not automatically used when installed how is it started up?

Re: OnLine JFS
Online JFS is not a service like oracle or a web server. It is a toolset that lets you do things.
It lets you extend filesystems without umounting them. It lets you defragment vxfs filesystems. It lets you freeze filesystems and take instant snapshots.
So you looked for something that would not be there. OnlineJFS is there, ready to be used, but doesn't do anything unless you tell it to.

(obviously I removed the license key).
So what you are saying is that because Online JFS is enabled I can perform the file system maintenance like extending logical volume and file system while Online anf mounted corrrect?

You wrote, "So what you are saying is that because Online JFS is enabled I can perform the file system maintenance like extending logical volume and file system while Online and mounted corrrect?"
That is correct, but there is *more* too.
You can also create snapshot filesystems and leverage additional mountoptions that bypass the UNIX buffer cache on a per-filesystem basis. See the manpages for 'mount_vxfs(1M)' and the JFS whitepaper below:

Re: OnLine JFS
swlist -l product | grep -i JFS
Since it is a plugin for the VxFS filesystem, it replaces commands like fsadm and mount to provide additional options. No activation at bootup is needed.
