OV Installation using CIFS mounted source

I am in the process of installing OVO in a 11.11 box.

Me being the lazy guy I am, I dont want to be running to the data center to keep changing the CDs everytime.

So, I came up with this idea of using CIFS to share my laptop's CD drive, mount the CD in my UX machine and start the installation (creative huh? :-))

Installation seem to succeed for some products but just hangs for the NNM. No progress in swagent.log or swinstall.log.

Has anyone tried this before and what am I missing ?

Any help will be appreciated with points !!

Sundar.

Re: OV Installation using CIFS mounted source

Why in the Wide World of Sports would you use a Windows anything to install UNIX software? What does work (and is documented and supported) is to copy the OVO/NNM CD's to a filesystem and install from there. The installation instructions identify the expected directory names corresponding to each of the CD's.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: OV Installation using CIFS mounted source

Are you using SD (swinstall) to install the software? SD sometimes tries to lock the files with which it is working. The CIFS Client does not support file locking, and under some circumstances hangs when a file lock is requested.

Too bad, because your idea is clever indeed.

OK,thanks to both for the suggestions. (and one extra point to Eric for adding it is not a stupid idea, after all :-)).

I think I will resort to copying the files locally.
