passwd

How can i use a passwd file for all server ?
I noticed that copying the passwd for to all server don´t work, because the encryption base is not the same !
I need this information, because the NIS is not working anymore and I don´t know why. So I wanted to set up the user accounts local to all machines.

Re: passwd

Can I copy one passwd file to all servers ?
After I copied the passwd to all servers I notized that the passwords are corrupted !
The accounts aren t working any more. When I modify the passwort on the new machine, the hash-key don´t look like the same as on the main server from which the passwd was copied !

Re: passwd

Hi there,

I think what you are looking for is the rdist tool. You "can" make copies of the passwd file to other servers with rdist. Just read the manual page for it.

Re: passwd

copy of password file will work.
there will not be any problem of encryption.

if you are haveing shadow password product installed then you have to copy /etc/shadow alongwith /etc/passwd file.
