i have HP-UX 11.11. I need to install PERL on this server, but my /opt FS is almost full. So, can i install PERL in /var/opt.
if so, how can i do this.

I would extend the '/opt' filesystem. You have OnlineJFS don't you?

linking is as you are saying, is it like....i can create a foler perl5 in /opt and link that folder in /var/opt...
so when i install the perl, will it goes in that pre-existing folder?

Well, you create a symlink in /opt/, not a directory:
ln -s /var/opt/perl5 /opt

Yes, it should. swinstall doesn't remove the directory before installing a new one.
