server migration

Hi All,
I have presently 2 HP9000 N4000 servers, runing with HPUX 11.11 and MC service gaurd 11.14 and oracle 9.2.x.x .
I want to migrate this setup to HP9000 RP4440 servers.is that ok by using ignite backup?
I have to update my patch level and Hardware Enablement Patches on N4000 server and take ignite backup or install RP4440 with current ignite backup and then update Hardware Enablement Patches. Please guide me for this migration.

Many Thanks !!!

Re: server migration

Your ignite image should work for RP4440.
May be you will have to do a additional reboot to fix driver issues.

Goodluck..

Re: server migration

it should work, however usually they say not to clone systems that have different hardware

if you want to clone and rebuild the kernel you have to set _CLONING_HP to true
in the additional tab in itool you'll see it

if not it will assume it's the same system and not rebuild the kernel

Re: server migration

I'd rather see you do a rolling upgrade to 11.23 - bring the RP4440's (11.23) into the existing cluster - migrate the apps over.

You will need to be at SG 11.15 on the 11.11 first - then after migration - upgrade to SG 11.17 on the 4440's.

Re: server migration

Hi Manish
it's not a kernel parameter, it's an option in itool go to additional tab and you'll see it
