Server Upgrade

Some of my colleagues upgraded their servers with double memory and triple hard disk capacity and yet the system is not upto speed to reflect the changes. Can you assist on way to go?

Re: Server Upgrade

If your applications are IO bound or CPU bound, these upgrades won't change that.

Run iostat to see if you have specific harddrives being used considerably more than others. Run top and glance (gpm for the X windows version) to see what processes are using the most CPU.

Re: Server Upgrade

Did you do some sort of baseline prior to upgrade?

Maybe the application is CPU bound, and the additional ram/disk was of no benefit...
