I'm running a D230 class HPUX10.20 box that has 6 printers attached through DTC ports. I bought a new rp2405 server and am trying to configure my printers on the new box. Can I set the rp2405 spooler to use the printers attached to the old D230 box? I know that I should go to jetdirect but my budget is tight. I would like to somehow just share my existing printer setup without having to revamp everything.
Thanks for any info.

SolutionSure. Just define them on the RP2405 as remote (not network) printers.
Just use the name of the remote system as the host name & the printer name on that system as the queue name.
Nothing to it.
Make sure the 2405 can resolve the IP of the remote host.

Jeff

Re: Sharing printers over dtc
if you have this printer define in your old D-class why dont you define a remote printer in the rp2405 and give the name of the system and the name of the printer and do all spool in the old computer .
you can do it with SAM .
if you cant use it it is recommend to by a jet-direct card for the printer , i know that the price is not so high .
just one more tip , 10.20 will be supported only for 3 month ahed

Re: Sharing printers over dtc
I added the printers as network printers and they work great when I send jobs to them.
However, when I do a lpstat -v it shows all the printers as /dev/null remote to:
Is there a way to get a unique device name for each printer? I need to point my database spooler at the device path to enable printing from within the database.
Thanks...

Re: Sharing printers over dtc
Nope, sorry.
Since there is no actual device being physically printed to on this system, there can be no dev to define.
Can the DB accept a command?
lp -dptr_name
