show page outs using sar

How do I get paging info using sar data. I know that sar -w shows swapping activity but I need to see paging activity.

Use vmstat instead. The only really meaningful metric will be the po (pageout) column.

Thanks. It would be easier to obtain historical paging info via sar. Solaris has an option to get this info which doesn't exist on hpux.

So my guess is that there isn't any way to get this info via sar.

You have already found out yourself.
You should be able to get pageouts/swapouts by sar -w the swpot/s should give you the pageouts per second.

We were running vmstat 1 100 during some heavy paging activity and it showed page outs in the 100-1700 range. The same time period for sar -w showed swap/page outs per second of from 1.90-2.03. It doesn't look as though the page outs from vmstat are the same as the swap outs from sar. Or is sar falling through the cracks when it comes to the sampling of data (every 5 minutes).
