Shutdown/startup scripts

In addition to the other good advice given, don't forget to edit the /etc/oratab file to indicate which databases should be started/shut down.

The dbshut and dbstart scripts supplied by Oracle only operate on the ones indicated in that file.

Unfortunately, I can't reply to the previous message...the browser spins and spins then errors out...
Anyway, there is also a good description of the startup model in /usr/share/doc/file_sys.txt (section 3).
