19:22 Mon Nov 18, 2002. Halt: (by atmes01!root)

Could anyone explain what's different between
both?
Halt:
Halt: (by atmes01!root)
Thanks.

Re: shutdownlog

Believe the first was a shutdown by a user *directly* logged in as root.
Second by atmes01 su'd to root.

I'm not clearly about above. Can you explain
simply? Thanks.

Re: shutdownlog

For me it looks like

Halt:

Did you do a shutdown from a remote PC or machine.

Halt:(by atmes01!root)

atmes01 is the hostname of the machine. So you have brought the machine down using root of atmes01

Thanks

Re: shutdownlog

Also In your earlier post you were speaking about a crash of one of the machines.
Yes you can find the panic message here at the shutdownlog file

or also you can check the reason in the INDEX file located at the crash directory.

Thanks

Re: shutdownlog

Halt:
Did you do a shutdown from a remote PC or machine.

Is it means "Halt:" MUST be a message from
remote PC to halt the server?

Re: shutdownlog

According to the way I find Yes,
Halt:
is a shutdown from remote.
