strange characters in subject when using mail
Hi everyone
Hope someone can help me.
I do the following procedure to a file:
# uuncode [file]|mailx -m -s "Subject" ???@$$$.com
The problem:
when I put special characteres only in Subject (mail without body message), the subject line in unreadable. If I put special characteres in subject and in the message body all of it is readable (message body and subject).
If I don??t special characteres at all everything workes fine.
Does anyone knows why this happen?
To me is very strange.
Thanks
SN

Re: strange characters in subject when using mail
Of course
For example: ?? or ^ , ~
By the way, the LANG defined is: pt_PT.iso885915@euro
And it works fine in other systems...

Re: strange characters in subject when using mail
Characters that are non-ASCII will not be associated with a language until the body of the message. Depending on the mail reader, the subject may be shown as strange characters related to the default language of the mail reader. Since you cannot control the type of mail reader or language setup on your recipient's system, I would avoid language-specific characters in the subject. Once indie the body of the email message, the character set can be specified and most email readers will pay attention to this directive.
