talk failed

Hi ajk,

I encountered the same problem. Have you found the fix yet?

Thanks,

Re: talk failed

I think I missed the original message... For talk to work your tty has to be accessible by the user who wants to talk (both ways) and if you try to talk from one machine to another you have to have the talk daemon active.

If those are not the causes, you will have to give more info (a thread on the forum might help too).
Every problem has at least one solution. Only some solutions are harder to find.

Re: talk failed

Hi,
Yes, details of the original problem would help! Check whether talk is enabled in the /etc/services file. You can also check whether the ability to use this service is enabled or not by executing "mesg" on the respective terminals.

Re: talk failed

Hi ALL,

I am sorry, the message should append to the original message:

I try to communicate with another user on the same system by command:

talk

or talk

Then the screen only show blinking cursor, nothing happens.

I did make sure the mesg is set to y on both end of communication. How do I verify if I have the access right to other users' terminal?
