Ultrium 1840 - Ignite backups work but fbackups fail
Hi
We have an Ultrium 1840 whice we use to fbackup our data to LTO4.
This has started to fail recently, but in testing, we have found that Ignite backups work to this drive.
Any ideas what could be causing this?
Your help is appreciated.
Regards
Tariq

Re: Ultrium 1840 - Ignite backups work but fbackups fail
I/O error - could be a bad tape cartridge, bad tape drive or bad connection.
I would install LTT http://www.hp.com/support/tapetools and create a support ticket.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

I can't seem to find any manulas for running hp_ltt from hp-ux command line. Would you happen to know where I can get instruction on this?

Re: Ultrium 1840 - Ignite backups work but fbackups fail
However, if you start it on hp-ux, everytime you just press <return> you get a online help screen too.
In short you select the drive, run an assessment test, save the ticket.
Since I assume a bad drive (most likely), you should consider to contact hp support and provide them the ticket.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Ultrium 1840 - Ignite backups work but fbackups fail
Did you notice the last line?
Enter a blank command for command list.
Let the system scan, then select the device.
You always see a list of commands when pressing ENTER, just input the index number then.
It looks like this:
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Ultrium 1840 - Ignite backups work but fbackups fail
Did you hit enter to see the commands?
Here is the manual:
ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/products/storageworks/techdoc/ltt/5969-5745.pdf
Start at page 34.
Is the drive still visible in ioscan?
Please post
# ioscan -fnN
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Hi Torsten
It turns out that as we have agile views turned on, we have to do the following to start:
./hp_ltt -N
Regards
and thanks for your help.

Re: Ultrium 1840 - Ignite backups work but fbackups fail
In the LTT tool, once you have scan it from there, you should be able to see the Library/Autoloader details and Drive details. Then you should be able to select the drives and do a diagnostic scan. You may just need to select or play with the choices on the menu.
If still you cannot see any of those on the LTT, you might need to check physically the connection or might need to powercycle, reconnect the drive from the server, ioscan, check tape driver if loaded and test the functionality again.
Cheers!
