Update - Still need help
Okay I am supposed to reboot the server tonight and try to use the support cd/tape. I tried to simulate this on another machine, and the tape failed. It isn't bootable. I do not have a 10.20 Support CD to use. I do however, have an ignite tape but I REALLLLLY don't want to rebuild this server (too many unknowns). Can I use the ignite tape just to boot from and then mount my filesystems and fix the passwd file that way?

No , I dont think you can just boot off a ignite tape . This tape is meant for eecovery only.

I didn't see the earlier thread. Is your problem just a corrupt passwd file? If so, then boot to single user mode and fix the file from there.

Re: Update - Still need help
Hi,
There is a recovery shell that you can load off a an Ignite tape - at least there is on the tape I made with Ignite version B.2.5.136 - however, it seems more braindead than a typical recovery shell. I'll dig into it more in the morning.
