Upgrade filesystem possible ?
we have a old file server running under hpux 11.0 using the LVM and online vxfs 3.3.
I would like to know, is it possible
a) to use the filesystem under hpux 11iv2 directly ?
b) Is it possible to update from jfs 3.3 ->
the current jfs 3.5 (vxupgrade ?) ?
We have 10TB on disk space, so I want to know
how much work (and time!) it wil take .....
Thanks, Peer

Re: Upgrade filesystem possible ?
See
http://www.docs.hp.com/cgi-bin/fsearch/framedisplay?top=/hpux/onlinedocs/5187-1879/5187-1879_top.html&con=/hpux/onlinedocs/5187-1879/00/01/102-con.html&toc=/hpux/onlinedocs/5187-1879/00/01/102-toc.html&searchterms=vxfs%7cupgrade%7conline&queryid=20040720-021426
The vxupgrade command is provided to upgrade an existing VxFS file system to the Version 4 layout while the file system remains online. See the vxupgrade(1M) manual page for details on upgrading VxFS file systems.
The vxfsconvert command is provided to upgrade older VxFS disk layout version to the Version 4 layout while the file system is not mounted. See the vxfsconver(1M) manual page for details on upgrading VxFS disk layouts.

Re: Upgrade filesystem possible ?
running vxupgrade is a matter of seconds rather than minutes.

Re: Upgrade filesystem possible ?
well my question seem's not to be clear.
We have online jfs release 3.3 disklayout version 4.
If we move to a new machine using 11i and veritas vxfs 3.5 can I use the fs without
converting TB of fs ?
Can I convert it online ?
Thanks for the answers.
bye, Peer
