Veritas Netbackup 4.5 and Informix 9.40
Our 'onbar' backups were running fine on informix DS 9.21, but now we have upgraded Informix to 9.40.FC3, the Veritas / onbar will not backup the logical logs any more.
We can do level 0 backups when the LTAPEDEV is /dev/null.
It also does a level 0 backup with a LTAPEDEV set to a proper device but when that finishes and it attempts to backup the logical logs we get this:
2004-06-11 09:15:22 12576 12574 Completed level 0 backup dbspace_4 (Storage Manager copy ID: 1 1086941123).
2004-06-11 09:15:22 12576 12574 Begin backup logical log 3913.
2004-06-11 09:15:22 12576 12574 Successfully connected to Storage Manager.
2004-06-11 09:15:37 12576 12574 ASSERT: file bar_xbsa.ecbarSendData() line 1331 - contact product support
2004-06-11 09:15:37 12576 12574 See also: /tmp/core
The online-log file shows this:
09:15:22 Archive on rootdbs, llogdbs, plogdbs, dbspace_1, dbspace_2, dbspace_3, dbspace_4 Completed.
09:15:22 Logical Log 3913 - Backup Started
09:15:37 Logical Log 3913 - Backup Aborted
Aborted by client.
09:15:38 Process exited with return code 1: /bin/sh /bin/sh -c /opt/informix/bin/a_inf_alarm.sh 3 19 "Log Back
up aborted: 3913." "Logical Log 3913 - Backup Aborted
Has anyone seen this before? What do you think the problem is.

Re: Veritas Netbackup 4.5 and Informix 9.40
Steve,
We use OmniBack with 7.31 rather than Veritas with 9.40. We did have some problems initially but nothing like what you're seeing. The key seems to be in the message
" 2004-06-11 09:15:37 12576 12574 ASSERT: file bar_xbsa.ecbarSendData() line 1331 - contact product support"
Is there a file called bar_xbsa.ecbarSendData somewhere that you can take a look at? If so, find line 1331 and see what it's attempting to do. Not much help, I'm afraid, but, short of calling Informix, I don't have any other suggestions.

Re: Veritas Netbackup 4.5 and Informix 9.40
Hi Pete,
Yes we thought that file was a dbug message pointing back to the Netbackup source code.
The other odd thing is that it refuses to create an ixbar.1 file, although it does rename the old one.
I just created another new instance from scratch and proved the backup and restore where the backup of logical logs did work.
It now looks like it may be an upgrade issue.

Re: Veritas Netbackup 4.5 and Informix 9.40
Steve,
might I suggest the following..
re-install the NetBackup Database-Agent CD, I guessing that this install will provide some type of run-time library linkage -- maybe this might correct the onbar issue.
good luck,
Tom
