Re: what difference between the HP platforms?

Hi

rp8400
r=rack mountable
p=PA-RISC

So, you may need to choose HP-UX PA-RISC(64-bit)

You're mixing a bit between HW and SW on that list.

HP9000 is the older name for all HP-UX boxes.

In a, b, and c, you list software revisions that would go along with an HP-UX box.

a) 32 bit OS revision 11.00 of HP-UX
b) B Level security revision of 11.00 of HP-UX
c) C Level security revision of 11.00 of HP-UX
d and f) 64 bit OS of HP-UX running IA64 hardware
e) pre-merger compaq version of Unix
g) 64 bit version of "a)"

Re: what difference between the HP platforms?

That looks llike it came straight off Oracle's web site/.

a. 32 bit HP-UX 11. discontinued, support lapses in two years

bc. special secure distributions of HP-UX
d. Itanium ( a new 64 bit intel chip version of hp-ux/platform also runs Linux and windows).
e. discontinued 64 bit os from compaq. Will be migrated to HP-UX
f see d

g. PA-RISC non-intel developed chip/platform, one generation left according to HP.

The next version of HP-UX v2 will be an integrated code set that is supposed to run on all platforms.

Re: what difference between the HP platforms?

Steven I'm not quite sure what you mean by "32 bit HP-UX 11. discontinued, support lapses in two years".
To the best of my knowldge 11.0 is to be discontinued and of April this year with support lasting thru 2006.
