Installing RHEL5 Red Hat with Virtualization on Itanium rx4640
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to install Red Hat RHEL 5 onto a rx4640 Itanium server. I've gotten a complete basic install but the problem is trying to do an install with RHEL 5 and install the Vm virtualization(XEN) software. Also, what is the proceedure to get a GUI interface up when doing the install? For now I'm only able to get the text based screens through the ELIO

Re: Installing RHEL5 Red Hat with Virtualization on Itanium rx4640
If I am not mistaken, Xen isn't fully functional on the IA64 machines until the RHEL 5.1 release. The release don't specifically say so but they say this:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 features Xen-based virtualization capabilities for i686 and x86-64, as well as the software infrastructure needed to manage a virtualized environment.
Notice... no mention of ia64.
As for getting the gui up during an install, I think you can specify "vnc=1 vncpassword=blah" during the install to get a vnc session. Or I might be confusing this with SLES, which I know has that functionality.

Necessary questions: Why? What? How? When?

Re: Installing RHEL5 Red Hat with Virtualization on Itanium rx4640
Shalom,
RHEL 5 is probably not certified on this box. If it is, Xen certainly is not, written for a different Intel Architecture.
HP has its own virtualization scheme for this platform that does not currently include Linux.
BTW, if you can't get the GUI, are you using ia64 install media?
