Re: system backup

Shalom,

dd entire disk to an iso file
dd if=/dev/sda of=/nfs_mount/system.iso

Crude but it works.

You can use http://www.mondorescue.org free software.

You can pay for http://www.acronis.com

You can buy Data Protector from HP.

Legato.

Netbackup from Veritas.

Its all a mater of time and money.

dd command assumes a network and an nfs mount point with full write privileges.

Re: system backup

I second SEP's 'mondorescue' suggestion, it is quite a great tool. We use it in production here.

Re: system backup

I know this is closed, but I personally do not recommend acronis. I did a trial of it last year and while the backup went well the restores were ridiculous. The boot cd was not using the correct drivers for my hba and it ended upp taking over 24 hours for a restore. I contacted acronis about this and they were not much help. I assumed that since they wanted to sell the product they would have helped me out. In the end I installed mondorescue and have been loving it ever since. It is super easy to create clones that can be used at DR, or just to restore a box back to a point in time.
"The difference between me and you? I will read the man page." and "Respect the hat." and "You could just do a search on ITRC, you don't need to start a thread on a topic that's been answered 100 times already." Oh, and "What. no points???"
