Re: using ram as a disk
Try a boolean search on the forums for RAM and disk. This has been discussed several times.
The need for a RAM disk has been obviated by cheaper, faster hard drives. However, there are situations where you might want a RAM disk. A couple of ideas:
Any read-only database (like for LDAP, for example)
Temporary storage (on Windows you could replace your C:temp directory with a RAM disk and really speed up Office)
Truly, though, there are few real world uses for RAM disk these days -- remember too that a crash or power outage will destroy all data in the RAM disk, so you only want stuff going there that you can afford to lose.
