HP ML150 G6 SBS 2008 Migration Problems (NIC)

Hi all,

I am having very similar issue to the person here: http://forums13.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1377668 (thread is closed)

I am migrating from SBS 2003 and everything was running smoothly until I started going through 08 setups.

SYSTEM:
HP ML150 G6 (E5504 Tower)

SYMPTOMS:

First start-up is fine; run ICW and setup everything, machine is looking good so I restarted to ShadowProtect the system and when I get back in to Windows the NIC shows a red X on it.

ncpa.cpl shows nothing, will not load

Device Manager shows the NC1710e card, I can uninstall it and re-install it (which freezes the device manager) and once complete it will be working again, UNTIL next restart!

TROUBLESHOOTING

Every time I restart I have the same problems, and eventually it will show up extra NIC's (Microsoft TUN adapter) and the dreaded red x after each reboot.

I have tried installing the HP NCU and different driver versions for the NC1710e but nothing will fix this bug.

I have re-ran up this machine 2 times with the easy setup CD provided. (ver 2.00)

I have an Intel NIC here that I am going to install now and then report back.

Any ideas appreciated!

Re: HP ML150 G6 SBS 2008 Migration Problems (NIC)

Hi Jimmie:

According to HP, this is your system's base configuration:

Base Model

HP ML150G6 E5504 2.0GHz, 2GB, SAS/SATA Base server (1P)
466132-xx1

Processor
Intel├В┬о Xeon├В┬о Processor E5504 (2.00 GHz, 4MB L3 Cache, 80W, DDR3-800)
Cache Memory
Integrated 1 x 4 MB L3 cache
Memory
2 GB (1 x 2GB) PC3-10600E Unbuffered Advanced ECC memory
Network Controller
Embedded HP NC107i PCI Express Gigabit Server Adapter
Storage Controller
HP Smart Array P410 controller w/ Zero Memory cache Raid Controller (RAID 0,1, 0+1)
Hard Drive
None ships standard
Internal Storage
SAS: 4.0TB (4 x 1TB 3.5") Maximum
SATA: 4.0TB (4 x 1TB 3.5") Maximum
Power Supply
460W Non-Hot Plug, Non-Redundant Power Supply (70% efficiency)
Optical Drive
HP Half-Height SATA DVD-ROM Optical Drive
Form Factor
5U Tower

Therefore, I assume the NC1710e NIC to which you refer is an additional (card slot?) NIC, not the one on the motherboard. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

If we are talking about the NIC on the mobo, there is a recent firmware upgrade that affects that NIC:

The latest NCU & drivers are available here:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=3884324&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=3884323&swLang=13&taskId=135&swEnvOID=4037#11395

The specific driver for your system would be:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=3884323&prodNameId=3884324&swEnvOID=4037&swLang=13&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=MTX-bca0f665948246d3bc537a09ee

When searching the entire HP website or the HP Product Bulletin, I find no reference to NC1710e.

Make a great day!

Re: HP ML150 G6 SBS 2008 Migration Problems (NIC)

It was the NIC provided and inastalled by EZ setup.

I have resolved this; although this has been a headache at every step it was not a HP fault but an SBS 2008 SP2 fault.

Had to call Microsoft etc although they were no help I have found the fault. (A hyper V service patch running although this is a physical machine) and resolved it.

I won't be using EZ setup for 2008 anymore though; although it is still valuable for 2003 setups.

It was indeed a 107i PCIe, don't know why I got it confused anyway.

Thank you for your responses!
