I try to generate the vmstar executable on an Alpho OpenVMS 8.3 from the Freeware 80 library fw80_vmstar.zip. The LINK.COM fails due to the fact that there is no VMSTAR.ALPHA_V8_OBJ in the package (only _V6_ and _V7_ !!)
I do need this version supporting the /ODS-2 switch. Who can help?

Re: Freeware VMSTAR 3.4-1
thanks for the quick reaction, in-between I became "cleverer": the package also has an MMS build which recompiles the .c module on the vms 8.3 machine and finally creates the executable. Thank you anyway again!

Re: Freeware VMSTAR 3.4-1
could also try the modified source kit at:
http://antinode.org/ftp/vmstar/v3r5_pre1_src.zip
It may do better on ODS5, long names, large
files, and a few other things.

Re: Freeware VMSTAR 3.4-1
I tried your new 3.5-pre1 release of vmstar, it works fine, as 3.4-1 did (the new features are by this time not (yet) relevant for me).
Just a remark: as with the 3,4-1 package, the link.com and build.com scripts for creating the executable are faulty, they do abort. Using mms instead is ok.

Repackage it, and submit it for the next Freeware (if/when the next one is headed out; I've not heard of one for V8.3-1H1), or post the kit or the fix up somewhere and announce it.
Freeware is less of a centralized, supported, productized and packaged environment, and more of a free-for-all scrum of source code. If you've got a fix, congrats, toss it out somewhere for the next person.

Re: Freeware VMSTAR 3.4-1
True enough. My intent was to make the
changes for the features I added, for use by
the VMSTAR developer(s), not for actual
release. I used only the MMS builder(s), so,
while I added some things to the .COM
builders, if they were bad before, they'd
probably be bad after.
