Problems with PCSI on 7.3-2

I upgraded from 7.3-1 to 7.3-2, then applied PCSI-V0100, then UPDATE-V0200, then the TCPIP 5.4 kit. After those I rebooted. Now when I try to PRODUCT INSTALL anything I get...

%PCSI-E-READERR, error reading SYS$SYSDEVICE:[VMS$COMMON.][SYSEXE]PCSI$FILE_SYST
EM.PCSI$DATABASE;1
-DDIS-E-MISSING, missing element is not OPTIONAL or DEFAULT

Any suggestions for how to proceed?

Thanks in advance,

Re: Problems with PCSI on 7.3-2

Do any of the other PRODUCT commands work (such as PRODUCT LIST or PRODUCT SHOW PRODUCT)?

After applying the PCSI ECO, did you follow the special post-installation instructions, specifically:

o No reboot is necessary after installation of this kit.
However, after installation of the kit users will need to take
one of the following steps to ensure that the new PCSI files
are used:

- Execute the command SET COMMAND SYS$UPDATE:PCSI.CLD

- Log out and log back in.

If you didn't do one of those things before proceeding with your other installations, then you may have been using the older version of PCSI against a database with a newer format (or vice versa), which could corrupt the database. If you have a backup copy of the PCSI database (hopefully from right after the 7.3-2 upgrade), you could try restoring it and then going through your installation steps again, but that might not work unless you manually roll back to the older PCSI executable(s). If you have a support contract, now would be a really good time to use it.

Re: Problems with PCSI on 7.3-2

I might be hosed. This is just a test system for me to play with the v7.3-2 upgrade (I'm trying to find land mines like this). The last backup I have is my 7.3-1 system. I might have to roll back and go again.

I installed PCSI-V0100 first. I logged out and then logged in again but didn't do the SET command. Then I installed UPDATE and TCPIP and rebooted. I probably should have done UPDATE, TCPIP, rebooted, then doen PCSI.

Any way to repair PCSI$FILE_SYSTEM.PCSI$DATABASE?

Thanks again - AEF

I always forget to Ask Mr. Wizard. Thanks.

Rebuilding the PCSI database worked although it's a bit clunky looking when it was done.

It just goes to show, even if you're just banging around on a test system, it pays to do a backup before you start messing with your system disk.
