Re: Vaxstation 4000-90 VMS 5.5-2 and 4Gig Drives
H4 is not an upgrade rel. It is for new installation on VAX 4000 related model. I found noplace to download this H4. Hope you can get the update from HP.

Re: Vaxstation 4000-90 VMS 5.5-2 and 4Gig Drives
[...]
NOTE: OpenVMS VAX V5.5-2H4 is a limited hardware release, shipped
only with the new systems (or system upgrades) listed below.
It is not separately orderable and will not be distributed
via Consolidated Distribution.
o VAX 4000 Model 100A
o VAX 4000 Model 500A
o VAX 4000 Model 600A
o VAX 4000 Model 700A
[...]
My only VMS V5.5-2 system is a VAX 4200 with
a CMD SCSI adapter, so the SCSI disks appear
as DUAy, not DKxyyy, but it boots from a 4GB
"RA90" with no difficulty, so I'd be amazed
if there were any 2GB limit on a SCSI disk
which looked more like a SCSI disk.
What does "The box seems to recognize it"
mean? Console SHOW DEVICE?
What does "I can't touch it under VMS" mean?
Depending on what's true, I'd worry more
about SCSI cables, ID's, termination, whether
the disk really works, and so on.

Re: Vaxstation 4000-90 VMS 5.5-2 and 4Gig Drives
I thought those devices worked fine with 5.5 systems. Its been so long since I worked on them though that I can't remember if we had to upgrade anything specific to work with the RZ29. I do remember that anything larger than 9Gig we had to do some formatting to make them only appear as 8Gig.

Not sure this would resolve your issue, but this question does come up now and again.
