Link Aggregation??

Is there any experience with configuring and/or operating Tru64 Unix with Link Aggregation? I've had some bad experiences with Microsoft's "Teaming", and need some "testimonials" that this aggregation really works!!

Anything I need to particularly careful about?

Any advise/recommendations>

Thanks,
Denny

Re: Link Aggregation??

Hi,

for an overview look here:
http://h30097.www3.hp.com/docs/base_doc/DOCUMENTATION/V51B_HTML/ARH9CDTE/NTCHPXXX.HTM#anch_0041
for configuration look here:
http://h30097.www3.hp.com/docs/base_doc/DOCUMENTATION/V51B_HTML/ARH9CDTE/NTCHPXXX.HTM#anch_0169

I haven't used it myself but I think, it works fine. I assumed you have V5.1B. For a different version look here:

go to system and network management

Re: Link Aggregation??

The LAG support works correctly if using a switch supporting this mode.

Be sure you are using the supported network controllers (e.g. DE60x, Gigabit) to form lag support.

Link Aggregation has been successfully tested with the following switches:

Foundry FastIron II
Extreme networks Summit 7i
Alteon ACE180
Cisco 6509, 6513, 3524XL
3COM 4900 SX

Note: Interoperability with manual configuration only. IEEE 802.3ad LACP and Cisco's Port Aggregation Protocol (PAgP) are not supported.

Re: Link Aggregation??

Thanks for the feedback. We have the Cisco 6509 Switches so we should be all set. However, when I talk to my Networker folks about this link aggregation, I get kinda of a blank look from them!??! I don't think they know what "lag" means!! I hope/trust, that if/when we start looking through the CISCO documentation, what needs to be done will be fairly straight forward!!??!!

Re: Link Aggregation??

lag is not a "HP/Compaq" feature, so I wonder why a network guru doesn't know it.
lag means "link aggregation" maybe there are some other vendor specific words for it.

Re: Link Aggregation??

Hi,

under HP-UX it is called apa/auto port aggregation.
