Re: Tru64 v5.1B on UP2000+

Tru64 v5.1B on UP2000+

Has anyone successfully gotten Tru64 v5.1B to install on a UP2000+ based Alpha clone? I am in the process of trying to upgrade an Alpha clone to Tru64 v5.1B. However, the install process terminates unexpectedly dropping me back to the SRM without error. It appears as if the installer/kernel is shutting itself down in an orderly fashion but for no apparent reason. This happens less than a second after the installer changes from text to video mode for the first time as indicated by a flash of the screen and a change from the system font to a thinner line-art type font. By the time the SRM's prompt is once again displayed, the system reverts to text mode and the system font is once again used.

To troubleshoot this type of problem you will need to install via the COM1 serial port. If you run "set console serial" at the SRM prompt you should get response from COM1 and when the system halts you will be able to see the message on the console.

Re: Tru64 v5.1B on UP2000+

Hi guys,

this thread is quite old, but maybe somebody will need the information.
The onboard SCSI-Controller does not work with Tru64 v5.1B, so you need a PCI-controller (e.g. Adaptec 39160). Then you disable the onboard controller in the SRM console.

The installation itself was not a problem, I did it by video card without a serial connection. I used an Elsa Gloria Synergy video adapter. This was not a genuine PBXGK-BB, but an original Elsa, which did not work in my AlphaStation. But it did work with the UP2000+ and the "comet" driver.
