VMware-ESXi-6.7.0-Update3-15160138-HPE-Gen9plus-670.U3.10.5.0.48-Dec2019 BREAKS ACCESS TO DATASTORE

After upgarding a DL360 Gen9 from VMware ESXi 6.7U1 to 6.7U3 using the latest HPE OEM image

VMware-ESXi-6.7.0-Update3-15160138-HPE-Gen9plus-670.U3.10.5.0.48-Dec2019.iso

we lost access to the local datastore. The SSD drive is seen by ESXi, but the datastore is neither listed, nor mounted, therefore not accessible and - with that - all the VMs on it.

The host has a Dynamic Smart Array B140i Controller and the whole system has been flashed with the latest SPP

P26228_001_spp-2019.12.0-SPP2019120.2019_1209.4.iso

(which provides support for ESXi 6.7U3) before updating the hypervisor.

It is clearly a driver issue: if I uninstall the scsi-hpdsa driver (responsible for the B140i controller) with

esxcli software vib remove -n scsi-hpdsa

ESXi recognises the controller as a "Wellsburg RAID Controller" and uses the generic vmw_ahci driver, but at least it properly mounts the datastore.

It may be ok as a temporary measure, but anyone has a clue about how can I get the scsi-hpdsa driver work?

Share the information about the previous ESXi image/version details to verify what was the previous HPDSA driver version.

The current image of ESXi 6.7 U3 (VMware-ESXi-6.7.0-Update3-15160138-HPE-Gen9plus-670.U3.10.5.0.48-Dec2019.iso) contains HPDSA version scsi-hpdsa--5.5.0.68-1. This is the latest Driver version for the B140i Dynamic Smart Array controller.

Performing an SPP update on the Host will only update the Firmware versions of the devices in the server. The drivers for all the devices are included in the HPE ESXi Custom image.

However, we recommend to install or update the HPDSA version separately on the host. Please find the link to download the driver file: https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=MTX_1324f3c77f744c2780d27c79f0

Write back with an update after performing the recommended upgrade

Thank you
