HP C1113J dip switches?

I have no documentation on the dip switches on my C1113J, does anyone have this information?

Do you mean the standalone box, or the bare drive?

The bare drive

OK, I'll dig into it. Doesn't look like we publish a bare drive manual on the support web.

Re: HP C1113J dip switches?

Here's the switch settings:

(note: SW1 closest to rear of drive, and "ON" is toward rear of drive).

SW1:
1 = Library eject distance
2 = DAIR Enable
3 = Disable Command Queuing
4-8 = reserved

SW2:
1-4 = reserved
5 = Enable SCAM
6 = Force Verify for Write Operation
7 = SCSI Terminator Enable
8 = Enable Write Cache for
Write and Verify Command

Re: HP C1113J dip switches?

I need to access data on a 5.2GB WORM MO disk for a customer.

I purchaed on eBay a bare MO drive SMO-F551 made by Sony for HP's C1113J.

It has no enclosure and I have mounted it internally into a PC running Windows XP.

I downloaded HP's Library and Tape Tool for this drive. I am having a problem with the LTT tool and the DIP switch settings.

Initially, all optional Dip switch numbers in the two optional switch (S501 and S502) were set to OFF. After the Device Analysis test told me that I had to enable Force Verify, I turned switch 6 to ON for S502. Now when I run the tool, the Device Analysis test tells me that my drive might be unusable because dip switches are in non-standard factory settings. I have run the Restore Factory settings from the tool but this didn't help. I have tried various combos of dip switch settings but I keep getting the same error.

(I do not have the Functional Switch Connector for the pins on the rear of the drive.)

All other tests pass, except the ones that test the media, it's like the tool is not communicating with the drive so that it can access the disk, and I get the same results whether or not I have a disk in the drive.

I have attached the support ticket log that was generated from the tool, hoping that it might help someone to help me.

I would appreciate any help anyone can give me.

Thanks,
Mike

Re: HP C1113J dip switches?

Mike,

I have the information you have requested.
The switch nearest the rear of the drive is SW1 and the switch above it is is SW2.

SW1 contains only two valid settings. All positions set to "Off", is the normal setting for MO box product and for the two largest MO jukeboxes. The small MO jukebox requires switch 1 set to "ON" with the remaining switches (2-8) set to "Off". This allows the drive to eject to the full Eject Distance which is required for the small MO jukebox. SW1 (2-8) are reserved for factory debug and are not user defined.

SW2 (1-5,8) are also reserved for factory debug and are not user defined.
SW2 (1-8) are set to the factory default state of "Off".
SW2(6-7) are used for a drive installation in a internal computer drive bay. They are defined as follows:
SW2 (6) "ON" sets Force Verify for Write Operations.
SW2 (7) "ON" sets SCSI Terminator Enable.

Re: HP C1113J dip switches?

Nice, and the functional switch connector? It sets the ID, probably, but what else? What are these mysterious 10 pins good for and how do they relate/conflict with the DIP switches?

Re: HP C1113J dip switches?

Duck,

I have attached a portion of an internal HP specification that explains the use of the rear library interface connector. This file covers both the C1113J and the C1113M 130mm MO drive.

Re: HP C1113J dip switches?

Hi Tom

that is exactly what I needed. Many thanks. I have two questions:

a) when I got my drive second hand, I found that the previous owner had put a jumper over pins 13 and 14 - do you think that could have damaged the drive? It seems to be working normally at first glance. I have no idea why he did this

b) after reading your document, I can't see how to change the drive between optical drive/fixed disk mode. That is possible with the non-jukebox version (Sony SMO-F561). Is there a way to do this with the C1113J/M?

Best regards
Stefan
