Jukebox initialization
Recently we had to replace the picker, the control board and the motor drive on our Surestore 220MX jukebox. Prior to this work we were able to reboot the attached server and the jukebox did not run through the init-elem process where now it does and has prolonged the process by about 20 minutes. Nothing has changed in our software, it was all hardward related. Can anyone tell me if there is a setting of some kind on the jukebox that is causing this situation and what I can do to change it so that it doesn't happen every time I reboot my server.

Re: Jukebox initialization
20 minutes is too long. Usually inventory check takes <3 minutes. Please disconnect library from the host and try power cycling it. How much time it takes to become 'ready'? If looking through is side window - can you see if library recovers from any problems (doing same things more than one time - let's say, moving picker from top to bottom slowly very often, etc).
You can try upgrading juke's firmware with HP LTT http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/ltt/index.html
Go through juke's menus. Compare to old juke settings. There could be picker speed setting - if you'll find it set it to 'full speed'

Re: Jukebox initialization
The most likely problem is that something changed in your software settings and a full inventory with reading tape headers is being done by the server. As was pointed out earlier a normal inventory should only take a few minutes with that library.
I've had this happen when I installed a service pack on an NT system and RSM suddenly got enabled and wanted to use the library.

Re: Jukebox initialization
Hello,
Unfortunately I think there's some confusion here regarding the product (tape versus optical) as well as what sort of inventory is being done.
When this inventory is performed does it load each piece of media to a drive? I believe that what you're seeing is infact a software inventory in which it will go through and load each platter , read the header and build it's data base.
If you could clarify this I can attempt to help figure out why this is occuring.
Thanks,
John
