CLIENT MAC ADDR: 00 00 00 00 00 00 in PXE-2.1 (error PXE-E11 ARP TIMEOUT)

Hi,

I am running a scripted install with RDP (deployment console 6.8 sp1) to a DL380 of RHEL4ES

During the pxeboot phases, I frequently get the error that PXE-E11 ARP timeout, graphic is attached.

It seems to be because the PXEboot client is intermittently using 00 00 00 00 00 00 as its MAC address. It seems that a manual Ctrl-Alt-delete restart can kick the machine to using a correct MAC address. however mostly it just fails.

Any ideas on what I can do to fix this?

Thanks,

Tom

hi,

Does your DHCP server have "Option 60" set?

Heres a more accurate error reason,

PXE-E11: ARP timeout.
The PXE ROM will retry the ARP request four times; if it does not get any valid ARP replies, this
message is displayed. This error can be caused by a number of network and service configuration errors. The most common are:
├в ┬в Setting the DHCP Class Identifier (option 60) on the DHCP server and installing the proxyDHCP on a separate computer.
├в ┬в Using routers that do not respond to ARP requests.

But surely if the client MAC address is sent as;
00 00 00 00 00 00

Any DHCP server can't reply anyway, so this is something to do with the client settings?

I have managed to replicate this on 2 DL380s now.

Hi

I found out that my PXE Boot Settings were incorrect .. showing the incorrect IP of the RDP Server ..

So I went to PXE Configuration Utility and edited the boot menu options

found this linked which helped me ..
