Adding two hard drive in RAID 1

We have a HP Proliant server running RAID 1 Volume.
We are running out of space, so we thought of extending the hard drive space. Could somebody helps me in adding two hard drive in two free slots without disturbing the Array

Re: Adding two hard drive in RAID 1

Hello,

you have to plugin the disks and add them to the array. This can be done by using ACU. You have to extend the array. After that, the controller will distribute the data over all four disks. If this operation is finished, you can expand the logical volume within that array. Remember: After that you have to resize the partition on that logical volume. This can be done by operating system utilities and depends on the OS you use.

In addition you can check the link in which some detailed explanation for Array expanding / Volume extension.

But be sure that you can't extend your OS DRive (Generally C drive) will not be extended if it is confiugred as Basic Disk.

You can follow the LUN/Volume extension procedure for remaining drives except OS/system drive even if they are basic disks.

The 2 replies are spot on. What is your OS?

Which server and which raid controller?

To be able to add disks to existing arrays, without losing your data (online capacity expansion), the controller needs to have the cache memory and BBWC options. There are controllers with no cache memory (ZM option) and controllers with cache but not BBWC (no battery backup). These controllers do not have the online capacity expansion capability. Check your controller.
