Can someone help to answer some questions about my DL360e B120i?
Hi, I have just purchased a DL360e G8 Server and it has a B120i Strorage Controller.
It cames with 2 x Kingstron 60GB SATA SSDs. in drive bay 1 and 2.
I would like to add some more capacity to the Server but I understand that.
1. It will only see the smallest drive size in the array so the rest of the space any others drives will go unsed. Meaning that if I put in anything bigger than 60GB it wouldnt use the sapce and the only way I could get it work at a later date would be to replace the 60GB drives.
2. It says that I can only use 4 drives with the B120i even though I have 8 SFF bays. Is this true?
3. Can I use a standard 2.5 SATA SSD as a replacement drive?. Like the Kingston SSD Now 300s, or any other make?
Thanks

Re: Can someone help to answer some questions about my DL360e B120i?
Hi Midi,
The b120i controller is a basic entry level controller which provides support for basic functionality. Four drives should ideally detect but we need to make sure that different types of drives are not mixed. Specification of the b120i:-
HP Dynamic Smart Array B120i Controller:-
Dimensions Embedded
Disk Drive Interface - Transfer rate Up to 6Gb/s SATA (Serial ATA)
Connectors 6 internal SATA connectors
Server Interface x4 PCIe 2.0
SATA Speed 6Gb/s SATA links
Cache Memory Zero Memory RAID has no cache memory optional 40-bit 512MB ECC protected Flash Backed Write Cache (FBWC)
Logical Drives Supported Up to 8 logical volumes (6 physical drives)
Host Memory Addressing 64-bit, supporting greater than 4GB server memory space
RAID Support RAID 0 (Striping), RAID 1 (Mirroring)
RAID 1+0 (Striping & Mirroring)
RAID 5 with optional 512MB FBWC
NOTE: 512 MB cache is required to enable RAID 5 support
NOTE: NO SAS supported.
We recommedn you to check the below quickspecs link to check the drives supported:-
https://h20195.www2.hpe.com/v2/GetPDF.aspx/c04128167.pdf
If you are looking to use higher capacity drive then we recommend you to use performance level controllers which can also be found on the same quick specs link as above.

Bunsol
