DL 580 G5 Blue screens about once a month

IML shows the ASR detected by system ROM, then shows the code: An Unrecoverable System Error has occurred (Error code 0x0000002E, 0x00000000). Looking into this error on searches I yield no particular cause. Just that it was a hardware issue. System Management homepage shows no errors with RAM, Disks, etc.

I ran the HP Insight Diagnostics and found a strange code in the IML of this software:
1. Failed Unknown 6/02/2008 6:44 6/02/2008 6:44 1 Unknown - Class: 20 - Code: 3

2. Failed ASR 6/02/2008 6:56 6/02/2008 6:56 1 Reset

3. Caution POST 6/02/2008 6:56 6/02/2008 6:56 1 Post Error - Message: - Error: 46

I have installed the most current version of the firmware (HPSUM) 8.0 x64 which updated the ROM to P61 (12/07/07).

I could not dig up anything useful on this error either through a web search. Has anyone ever seen these errors together and may know the root of the cause?

We had a similar problem on a DL580 G5. HP said this is usually due to a problem with memory. Since the exact location is not specified, all the DIMMs might need to be swapped out.

Re: DL 580 G5 Blue screens about once a month

Hi ,

I am seeing this exact error on two servers.
PSP 7.91 and ROM P61 (12/07/07)
OS x64 2003 SP2

We have 4 identical DL585G5 servers , two are behaving ok.

I believe that swopping all memory and hoping to fix a problem is not a good enough answer unless there is a advisory from HP indicating a manufacturing flaw.

Has anyone fixed this by any other means?
Any joy with the most recent ROM?

If you turn off ASR so it doesn't reboot, check the lights on the system when it hangs. You might find a memory error light.

I also have a DL580 G5 that is blue screening and throwing that same error (Error code 0x0000002E, 0x00000000). I called HP and asked them to send me replacement memory, but they will not (boy, are they going down hill.) Guess it's time to start looking at IBM servers since HP does not want to stand behind their product or support contracts.

I have the Latest Firmware installed, still doing this. It has gone from once per month to once per week.

We have had the same issue. Not on all DL580 G5's but some of them. On one, we ran a soak test that would not start, reseated all removable bits on the boards and the soak test worked.

On others, the soak test was ok. No need to re-seat anything.

HP have come back to us and said that we should be on the very latest support pack and firmware

Re: DL 580 G5 Blue screens about once a month

We just had this exact problem occur this morning about 3 hours ago.

I am going to try the suggestions of the Firmware maint. cd, and also upgrading the PSP.

Hopefully this fixes the issue, as we have 36GB of RAM in these systems.

Thankfully we have them running as an SQL 2005 cluster using MSCS, so the failure was not as major as it could have been.

Re: DL 580 G5 Blue screens about once a month

HP Support has been dragging their feet. They made shut it down and run the smart start hardware tests (No errors). Made me collect logs and told me they would call back in 30mins. That was yesterday, I am still waiting for a call back.

Mine was already at newest firmware/drivers.

By the number of people starting to add to this thread, it sounds like it may be a larger problem than first thought....

HP, how about some input here?

How about actually calling back like you promised?
