DL180 G6 25SFF backplane, cables to system board and P410
We replaced the existing drive cage/backplane as we needed more spindles, but lower power consumption, but the old Mini SAS 4x connector was combined with the backplane SGPIO connector (j66 on system board) and I'm not sure if more cables than the 2 Mini SAS 4x from the P410 to the backplane are needed.
Cheers
Mike

Re: DL180 G6 25SFF backplane, cables to system board and P410
Please find the info below from quickspecs of this server.
Drive Bays Up to 25 Hot Plug SAS/SATA 2.5" drives
NOTE: 4 Drive Models are Non-Hot Pluggable. Smart Array Controller must be added for Hot Plug drive capability.
4 Drive Models can be upgraded with the addition of a Smart Array Controller and a SAS/SATA Multi-lane cable (496013-B21).
NOTE: The addition of a Smart Array Controller requires the addition of a SAS/SATA Multi-lane cable (P/N 496013-B21).

Re: DL180 G6 25SFF backplane, cables to system board and P410
Hi Mike,
We are also attempting to convert our DL180 G6s from 12-bay 3.5" drives to 25-bay 2.5" drives.
I purchased 2 of the 25-bay cages and I cannot get them to work on our DL180s. The DL180 simply will not power on when the 25-bay cages are installed. If I re-connect the previous cage, no problem.
Do I need additional cables? I've used the 2 hard-wired cables that came on the 25-bay cage (power and USB), and I have 2 of the Mini SAS 4x cables. There are a total of 3 cables connected to the backplane board and 2 cables to the chassis. Do I need something else?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks, Daniel.
