I have a DL360 G10 with 7 x 600GB SAS drives installed attached to a Smart Array P408i-a SR Gen10 controller.
6 of the drives are conigured in a RAID10 array with the 7th being a dedicated hotspare.
As we only have 8 slots available in the server and I need to expand the available storage I was thinking of doing the following:
Amend the array so it DOES NOT have a hotspare. Add another disk into slot8. Add the disk in slot7 (used to be dedicated hotspare) and the new disk in slot8 to the RAID10 array.
I am looking at HP Smart Storage Administrator to perform these tasks.
Is this achievable without destroying the data within the array and does it require significant downtime ? Is there a better way of doing it ?

SolutionHello,
Yes you can expand the logical drive.
First you need to remove the hot spare. Add the drive in Bay 8.
Bay 7 and Bay 8 should be in unassigned state.
Perform the steps given in the document to expand the array.

Downtime would be required as it recommended doing it offline when the controller has no other tasks to perform.
We would recommend taking a full data backup as well just in case of any unexpected issues.
Thanks,
TAM
