DL580g8 and Nvidia K80

Hello,

I am trying to install a pair of NVIDIA K80 into DL580 g8 (4 cpus populated). It reports a power failure for most PCIe card cables, but I was able to make it work with the dedicated power cable. However, upon stress test, it is still reporting power failures. May I ask if NVIDIA K80 is locked out of DL580 g8 at the PCI level? Is there a way to bypass this check at the Bios level?

Best wishes,

Kyung

Re: DL580g8 and Nvidia K80

Hi @kyung114 ,

Please refer to the following supported cards listed in the QuickSpecs of DL580 Gen8.

NVIDIA Quadro K6000 PCI-E Graphics Adapter 730874-B21
NOTE: Supported at Gen2 speeds
NVIDIA Tesla K40C 12GB Computational Accelerator 753960-B21
NOTE: Supported at Gen2 speeds
NVIDIA GRID K2 Reverse Air Flow Dual GPU PCIe Graphics Accelerator 753958-B21
NOTE: Only three cards are supported with MS Windows Server 2012 R2

Also, please refer to page 31 of the quickspecs on the link below:

https://h20195.www2.hpe.com/v2/getdocument.aspx?docname=c04199329

Please check if you have the configuration as suggested. I have shared the same below:

NOTE: Up to five cards are supported on the DL580 Gen8. Supporting multiple
number of cards on the DL580 Gen8 blocks some active IO cards as follows due
to space constraints:
For 2P config: Max of 2 double-wide cards are supported on slot 6 and slot 9
(slot 8 is blocked)
For 3P config: Max of 3 double-wide cards are supported on slot 3, slot 6 and
slot 9 (slot 5 and slot 8 are blocked)
For 4P config: Max of 5 double wide cards are supported on Slot 1, Slot 3, Slot 2,
Slot 6 and Slot 9 (slot 5 and slot 8 are blocked).
NOTE: HPE DL580/DL585/DL980 Power Cable Kit (631660-B21) is required for
Graphics cards. Each cable kit has two 8-pin connectors (one 150W and other
225W) and can support up to two cards. For three cards, two cable kits are
required. For five cards, three cable kits are required. The cards pull up to 75W
of power from the IO slot and the rest from the auxiliary power connectors.

Let us know if you have any further query.

Re: DL580g8 and Nvidia K80

Unfortunately, I don't think that this really helps. Although K80 was not on the list of officially supported options, HPE also has the commitment to support third-party options as you can find here:

https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=emr_na-c05317327

Given that K80 follows essentially the same instruction sets (it really is just two K40c in one board), it can also be recognized in the PCI.

Has HPE kept K80 out of the PCIe being recognized for HPDL580 G8 (the link above says the otherwise).

Hi @kyung114 ,

Thank you for your reply.

To address and isolate the issues, could you please check if the latest card firmware and driver have been installed?

You can find the one compatible with the OS installed in the link below:

Hi Kyung,

I am having some trouble with K80s too. Could you enlight me what kind of power cable you are using? Did you solve the Bios problem?
