Your software can handle software RAIDs only anyway.

I would try HBA mode regardless.  Recovery software that performs direct reads, sector by sector, against the drives might still be able to recover something even if the drives are not formally recognized by the controller.

OP's specific software may not be able to handle hardware RAID arrays but some other forensic recovery software just might.
