Dual 1 meg Pentium Pro's in a Proliant 850r?

Is it possible? I'm thinking of buying a 850r and am wondering what upgrade options there are for me. would either 1 meg Pentium Pro's work or 333MHz Overdrives?

Thanks,
Joel

Joel:

You can install two (2) Pentium Pro 200's in this box. Be sure to order the extra PPM (SP#225529-001) if it does not already have it.
As far as using overdrive processors... your guess is as good as mine.
Enjoy!

Yeah the box already has 2 256K P-Pro 200MHz in it, I would like to at the very least, upgrade it to 2 512k processors, but I have never seen this done, and am wondering if higher L2 cache processors are supported. I have done a few searches on the subject and came up with nothing, there is no mainboard info on the processor support that I can find...

I upgraded two PL800 to use the bigger cache processors, and I had no problems... I think it was worth it to add cache on that architecture. Go for it!
Enjoy!

Re: Dual 1 meg Pentium Pro's in a Proliant 850r?

Well, after a day of reading I read through all the old Proliant posts, and have come to the conclusion that the 850r is just not upgradeable, well at least thats what Compaq says, P2 333 Overdrives will defineatly not work (error 212) and they only list the 256k L2 chips compatable, unless someone here has sucessfully put 512k or 1 meg chips in and could let me know, then I'm probably not gonna waste my time trying, Thanks to everyone who replied though!

Does the 800 share the same motherboard with the 850r?

To the last guy who put bigger processors in his 800, what cache size were they?

I went from 256 to 512.

Re: Dual 1 meg Pentium Pro's in a Proliant 850r?

The 800 mainboard supports dual 1 meg Pentium Pro's with VXI's 5 volt PPM's for the 512k Pentium Pro's. VXI's PPM's have more Watts than Compaq's.

The 850R mainboard supports dual 512k Pentium Pro's with Compaq's 5V/12V (dual voltage) PPM's. The key is to match the PPM's output to the Wattage requirements of the processor.

The mainboards have different BIOS's, 800 is P09 and the 850R is P04.

None of this is supported by Compaq.

Oops! The 800 is P02. Both P02 and P04 are dated 4/19/2000.
