Error Install HP Network Configuration utility

Running a DL360 G3 with Windows 2003. I finally have enough ports on my gig switch to use teaming, but I am unable to install the network configuration utility. Error message in the log is:
Command Line Parameters Given: /silent

Name: HP Network Configuration Utility for Windows Server 2003
New Version: 7.86.0.0

Beginning Silent Session...

The software is not installed on this system, but is supported for
installation.

- the component will be installed

The operation was not successful.

Where can I look for more error messages, or has anyone else resolved this problem.
NIC's work fine separately.

Re: Error Install HP Network Configuration utility

Getting same error 'operation was not successful' during install. Tried different NICs and just about every version of the Network Utility without success. My issue is on a DL580G1 with all firmware/software up to date (7.3). If I search locally for cpqteam.exe and run it, the icon comes up in the taskbar. Clicking on icon produces error: FindComponent:cq-team Failed: 0x1

Re: Error Install HP Network Configuration utility

Hi,

I'm having the exact same problem with a DL360G3 on Windows 2000.

Did you ever find a solution to your problem ?

Thanks a lot,

Try installing from the 7.4 SmartStart CD

Re: Error Install HP Network Configuration utility

Sorry, should have specified.

After installing PSP 7.40b the NCU is no longer seen on the system.

Installing NCU 8.20 (latest) results in the exact same error message as seen above

Re: Error Install HP Network Configuration utility

Rick,
Update the firmware on the NICs:
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/locate/69_4764.html#69
Install the newest Nic-driver :
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/locate/69_4764.html#15
Finally install Teaming from URL above.
You may need to reboot in between.
I generally do this on 1 NIC and feed the second one an apipa.

Re: Error Install HP Network Configuration utility

Go to any of your network connections that was teaming, right click, properties. Highlight the HP Network Config Utility and click Uninstall. Check other network connections if more than one. This will uninstall the utility. Reinstall nw utility. This fixes it 95% of the time. Version of NIC drivers and config util usually doesn't matter.

Re: Error Install HP Network Configuration utility

In my case teaming isn't installed at all so uninstalling is not an option.

Found nothing in the properties of the NICs.

We logged a Case @ HP. Hopefully they come up with an official answer which I will post off course

Re: Error Install HP Network Configuration utility

Hi,

Try this latest NCU version!!!

http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/networking/us/download/24314.html

Please note:
To ensure that first-time installations of the HP Network Configuration Utility for Microsoft Windows Server 2003 complete successfully, perform the installation in Interactive Mode or using the administrator account.

Please remove all the other verions of NCU

Hope this works!!!!!

Re: Error Install HP Network Configuration utility

I tried the cp006374.exe package but that failed as well. I have removed and re-installed NIC, drivers, etc. Cannot get any
Hp teaming version for 2003 to install.

Re: Error Install HP Network Configuration utility

Try this...
Extract the files from the teaming software's CP00xxxx.exe file via winzip. Go to the Local Area Connection properties of one of the NICs, click Install, select Protocol and click Have Disk to point to the location of the extracted teaming files.

Re: Error Install HP Network Configuration utility

Tried the solution of extracting the cpxxxxx.exe with Winzip and adding the protocol to the card. Everything works fine. Thanks.

Re: Error Install HP Network Configuration utility

Hi,

Don't know if you have sorted this problem out yourself but I have been working on this issue and tracked it down to HP not digitally signing cpqteam.xml in the driver package... Anyway, to get it working:

1. Open the Local Security Policy on the server you want to install drivers or protocols on;
2. Browse to Local Policies > Security Options;
3. Set Unsigned driver installation behaviour to Warn but allow installation;
4. Set Unsigned non-driver installation behaviour to Warn but allow installation;
5. Close Local Security Policy window;
6. Open a command prompt and refresh policy by running secedit /refreshpolicy machine_policy;
7. Run the HP Network Configuration Utility installation setup cp006330.exe as normal.

Hope this helps anyone with the same issue...

Regards,

Ian
