ESXi URB Timeout Alert - HP ProLiant ML310e Gen8 v2
Server: HP ProLiant ML310e Gen8 v2
I'm having a problem when installing ESXi 5.0 U3 (HP Customized Image). It prompts an error showing URB Timed Out - USB Device may not respond while the ESXi Installer is loading. It fires every time hpvsa module is loaded.
What I've tried so far:
- Updating all HP Firmware
- Installing vSphere 5.5 U2 Sept 2014 (same error)
- Installing a non HP Customized ESXi Image (same error)
Note: everything was done from a clean installation either using Intelligent Provisioning or not.

Hi,
For VMware OS compatibility, visit: http://h17007.www1.hp.com/us/en/enterprise/servers/supportmatrix/vmware.aspx
Regarding the erorr, what you could try is:
Remove any USB Storage device like USB Key or Tape Drive or External HDD and see if that makes a difference.
Thank You!
I am a HP employee.

Re: ESXi URB Timeout Alert - HP ProLiant ML310e Gen8 v2
I have tried the proposed solution but I get the same error.
We have found in some forums other people talking about problems with the RAID controller. We changed it in the BIOS (from the Smart Array controller to SATA AHCI Support).
Now with this change, the installer is able to load beyond the last point we found problems before, but we get another error. This time, the error fires when loading the hp-ams.sh.
As before, we tried to install all of these images:
- customized HP image vSphere 5.5 U2 Sept 2014
- customized HP image vSphere 5.0 U3 Sept 2014
- non HP Customized ESXi Image

Re: ESXi URB Timeout Alert - HP ProLiant ML310e Gen8 v2
On which device you try to install VMWare? USB stick/key, SD-card, single disk or RAID-volume?
Did you run Sep 2014 SPP (Proliant Service Pack)?
