Expand RAID 5 without loosing data

Hello,

I have a customer with an Proliant ML 350 G6. We now have 4 x 300GB SAS drives installed  in RAID 5. I believe there ar two emty slots available and we want to install two extra 300GB SAS drives. The controller is a P410i in the Embedded Slot.

Can I expand the RAID 5 and the logical drive without loosing data (backup will be made before the action)? Now the is a logical drive of 650GB (D:\) and that needs to be expanded.

Best regards,

Robin

Re: Expand RAID 5 without loosing data

Hi,

This server comes with either of the two options:

6 x 3.5 inch (LFF) Hot-Plug SAS/SATA hard drive bays
8 x 2.5 inch (SFF) Hot-Plug SAS/SATA hard drive bays

I guess your server has LFF drives.

You may add two new drives and Array Configuration Utility will help you in Expanding and Extending RAID.

But for D: partition expansion, you may need to use some third party partitioning utility.

Thank You!
